When New Belgium Brewing — one of the most sustainability-driven breweries in the country — needed a chiller that matched their environmental commitments, they came to G&D.

In a recent webinar hosted by the state of Tennessee’s Department of Environment & Conservation, G&D's Business Development Manager Scott Timms walks through what that conversation actually looked like, and why natural refrigerants are no longer a "nice-to-have" for forward-looking breweries, wineries and distilleries.

A few things Scott digs into:

A decade of natural refrigerant adoption across Europe, and why the US market is finally catching up

The practical difference between A2L blends and R290 (propane) — and what each one actually means for the operator on the floor

Why the Elite 290 series is a future-proof option for North American producers: built around R290, a natural refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential of almost zero, and engineered to align with both today's compliance demands and tomorrow's sustainability goals

If you're weighing your next chiller decision — or just trying to make sense of where the industry is headed — this one is worth the time.

Big thanks to TN Sustainability for taking the time to have this important conversation and provide resources to wineries, breweries and distilleries for a brighter, greener future for our shared planet.

Supporting the Biogas & RNG Industry with Industry-Leading Process Chillers, Reliable Conditioning & Scalable Cooling for RNG Production

The biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) industry continues to expand at a remarkable pace, and G&D Chillers is proud to be heading to BIOGAS AMERICAS 2026 in Detroit to connect with project developers, plant operators, technology providers, EPC firms, and decision-makers driving this market forward. For more than 30 years, G&D has engineered glycol chillers and process cooling systems that perform in some of the most demanding industrial environments in North America – and biogas is exactly that kind of environment.

Why Cooling Is Critical to Biogas & RNG Production

Reliable process cooling underpins nearly every stage of biogas conditioning and RNG upgrading. When chillers fail or underperform, gas quality, pipeline injection, and revenue all take the hit.

Operators rely on G&D for stable, dependable cooling across:

Biogas conditioning and dehydration

Compression cooling for upgrading systems

Membrane, PSA, and amine RNG upgrading process loops

H2S and siloxane removal pre-treatment

Digester process temperature support

Compressor jacket and aftercooling

Outdoor, high-ambient, and remote site installations

Biogas and RNG facilities choose G&D because our chillers deliver:

Extremely stable temperatures across variable load conditions

Industry-leading efficiency and reduced operating cost

Heavy-duty, built-to-last engineering for harsh process environments

Modular designs that scale as your facility expands

Easy access for service and long-term maintenance

Quiet, reliable operation - even in demanding outdoor conditions

What G&D Is Showcasing at BIOGAS AMERICAS

At this year's show, we're bringing the cooling solutions purpose-built for the biogas and RNG industry:

Industrial glycol chillers engineered for continuous-duty biogas and RNG service

Modular expansion systems for fast-growing project developers

High-ambient and outdoor-rated chillers for challenging site conditions

Energy-efficient compressors and smart controls with remote monitoring

A2L-compliant refrigerant platforms and our Elite 290 (R290 propane) low-GWP option - aligned with shifting regulations and building codes

Field-proven systems already installed at biogas and RNG facilities across North America

Biogas and RNG operators choose G&D for one core reason: we understand process cooling. Our systems are engineered, built, and supported by people who have spent decades solving cooling problems in the field – including the kind of corrosive, high-stakes environments biogas projects routinely face.
Craft brewery growth is exciting, but scaling production puts serious pressure on the systems behind the scenes. In hot, demanding environments like South Florida, brewery temperature control becomes mission-critical. The right brewery chiller system is not just a piece of equipment. It is a long-term partner in keeping operations efficient, reliable, and ready for expansion. That is exactly what Tripping Animals Brewing Co. discovered as it built and expanded its operation in one of the toughest brewing climates in the country. We spoke with Juan Manuel Torres, Production Lead and Partner, about the brewery’s journey and how partnering with G&D Chillers helped support that growth.

From Homebrewing to a Miami Craft Beer Destination

Like many successful breweries, Tripping Animals started small. More than 14 years ago, the founders began as homebrewers in Venezuela, experimenting, refining recipes, and building a brand from the ground up.

That early passion eventually led them to Miami, where they officially launched Tripping Animals Brewing in 2018. Today, the brewery is a family-owned business built by four families—the Chocron, Elorriaga, Montenegro, and Torres families—and is known for delivering both high-quality craft beer and a memorable taproom experience.

Building a Brand Beyond the Beer

For Tripping Animals, great beer is only part of the equation. The brewery has built a strong identity by creating an experience that goes beyond what is in the glass.

Distinctive and highly visual brand design

Strong storytelling behind each beer release

A steady cadence of new beers and collaborations

A taproom environment centered on community

This combination has helped Tripping Animals stand out in a competitive market and build stronger customer connections.

Planning for Brewery Growth

The team’s growth has not slowed. Tripping Animals continues to release new beers weekly, host community events, and develop new beverage lines to expand its portfolio.

That kind of momentum creates a clear operational challenge: brewery infrastructure must scale as fast as the business. When production increases, support systems such as chilling can no longer be treated as secondary.

Why the Right Brewery Chiller Partner Matters

When Tripping Animals evaluated chilling systems, the requirements were clear:

Reliable performance

Capacity to support long-term growth

Strong service and technical support

A team they could trust

They were not simply shopping for equipment. They were looking for a brewery chiller partner that could keep pace with a growing craft beer operation.

That is where G&D Chillers came in.

A Chiller System Built for Today and Tomorrow

From the start, the partnership between G&D Chillers and Tripping Animals focused on long-term alignment. During the initial buildout, the teams worked closely together to:

Ensure proper system sizing

Align the chilling setup with production goals

Plan ahead for future expansion

That early planning paid off. As the brewery expanded, the chilling system was able to grow with the operation without creating disruption.

Real-World Performance Gains in Miami’s Heat

As production increased, the need for additional chilling capacity became more important. After installing an additional G&D chiller, Tripping Animals saw immediate operational benefits:

More efficient back-of-house workflows

Greater production flexibility

Longer lead times for getting beer ready

Reliable performance during peak Miami summer heat

In a climate where high ambient temperatures can challenge even well-designed systems, dependable performance is essential. For Tripping Animals, consistent chilling performance has helped the team stay on schedule and avoid costly downtime.

A True Growth Partnership

For Tripping Animals Brewing, the relationship with G&D Chillers is not transactional. It is an ongoing partnership focused on supporting growth without compromising performance.

“The partnership with G&D truly delivered on the confidence we were looking for. They met our needs perfectly by providing expert guidance and support throughout our initial building procedure, ensuring the chilling system aligned precisely with the plans we had for the company's initial stages and, crucially, its projected future growth. Since the installation, we have continued to work hand-in-hand with their team to smoothly expand our capacity and keep pace with our consistent growth. It's been a true partnership for scaling the business.”

— Juan Manuel Torres, Production Lead and Partner

That is the difference between choosing a vendor and choosing a true operational partner.

Final Takeaway: Scalable Chilling Supports Scalable Brewing

As breweries grow, chilling becomes more than a utility. It becomes core infrastructure.

The takeaway is simple: if your brewery systems cannot grow with you, they will eventually hold you back.

By investing early in the right solution and the right partner, Tripping Animals Brewing created a stronger operational foundation for the future. The result is a more efficient brewery, more confidence in production, and a system designed to keep pace with what comes next.

Get a Chiller Built for Your Brewery

Whether you are scaling production, expanding capacity, or planning a new facility, the right brewery chilling system can make all the difference.

G&D Chillers works with breweries to design systems built for performance today and sized for future growth.

With the World Ag Expo just days away, the dairy industry is gearing up for a week of new ideas, new technology, and new opportunities to rethink what’s possible in on‑farm cooling. This year, G&D Chillers, in partnership with GEA, is stepping into the show with a solution designed to set a new benchmark for sustainable, high‑performance dairy chilling: the Elite 290 Propane Chiller.

As producers, innovators, and dairy leaders gear up for this global gathering, G&D Chillers, in partnership with GEA, is ready to showcase a cooling solution that truly stands out: the Elite 290 Propane Chiller — built for sustainability and real‑world performance.

Introducing the Elite 290: An Environmentally Friendly Refrigerant That Actually Works in the Heat

Sustainability talk is everywhere — but very few “green” refrigerants can deliver stable, reliable performance when temperatures climb. That’s where the Elite 290 changes the game.

Powered by R‑290 propane, this system features:

Near zero GWP, exceeding emerging environmental requirements

Exceptional efficiency, even during high-ambient conditions

Consistent cooling capacity under heat stress, where other refrigerants struggle

For dairy producers who depend on reliable cooling for milk quality, the Elite 290 proves that sustainability and performance don’t have to be trade‑offs.

A Partnership That Raises the Bar: GEA × G&D Chillers

Across the Expo’s 2.6 million square feet of innovations and equipment, GEA stands as one of the most trusted global names in dairy technology. Our partnership brings together:

GEA’s dairy processing expertise G&D’s proven engineering in high‑efficiency chilling

G&D’s proven engineering in high‑efficiency chilling

A unified, dairy‑focused cooling platform

Integrated, future‑ready solutions designed for long‑term value

This is not just another equipment showcase — it’s a collaboration built to advance dairy cooling for years to come.

What Makes This Truly Advanced

As several companies promote “advanced” systems heading into the Expo, it’s important to highlight what actually constitutes meaningful innovation:

Performance in Heat — Where It Actually Counts

CO₂ and A2L refrigerants often lose efficiency under high‑ambient conditions. The Elite 290 delivers stable output without compromise.

Environmentally Responsible andOperationally Reliable

R‑290 isn’t a hybrid or transitional refrigerant — it’s the real long‑term solution for sustainable chilling.

Dairy‑Specific Engineering

This system wasn’t adapted from another industry. It was designed from the ground up for dairy workflows, milk cooling loads, and uptime demands.

Ready for Regulatory Future‑Proofing

As refrigerant regulations tighten year after year, the Elite 290 puts producers ahead of the curve — not scrambling to catch up.

By Andy Backer, North American Sales – G&D Chillers

As someone who’s spent a few decades working side‑by‑side with wineries across the country, I always look forward to the Texas Wine & Grape Growers Association Annual Conference. It’s one of the most engaged, solutions‑focused shows in our industry — and this year’s event in San Marcos, February 23–25, 2026, is shaping up to be one of the strongest yet.

We’ll be on the floor at Booth 407, ready to dig into the real challenges Texas wineries are facing: harvest heat loads, fermentation swings, cellar consistency, reliability concerns, and the constant pressure to scale smarter, not harder.

Why TWGGA Matters

The IntertWINEd conference theme this year really hits home — the Texas wine industry thrives because growers, winemakers, suppliers, and advocates work as one interconnected system. The show brings that collaboration to life with:

Hands-on vineyard and winery insights, from hybrids to disease control to sustainability.

Practical marketing and business sessions, helping wineries strengthen brand and revenue foundations.

A high‑energy expo hall, where new technology, service partners, and real solutions take center stage.

Immersive tasting add‑ons, including Texas terroir and innovations in resistant varietals.

What You Can Expect from G&D at Booth 407

At G&D, we don’t believe in one‑size‑fits‑all cooling. Texas wineries face some of the highest ambient temps and widest seasonal swings in the country — and your cooling system needs to be engineered around your production realities.

At our booth, we’ll be walking you through:

Smarter chilling strategies for warm‑climate winemaking

Fermentation control solutions that improve consistency year‑over‑year

Scalable systems that grow with your cellar, not against it

The reliability and responsiveness that only field‑tested engineering can deliver

Register here and then let’s connect while you’re at the show — grab me at Booth 407 or set aside a few minutes and we’ll talk through what you’re working on.

Or if you have any immediate needs, don't hesitate to reach out to me at Andy.backer@gdchillers.com

Baking is a science. From artisan bread and sweet goods to industrial-scale pastries and doughs, every step in the process must be precisely controlled to achieve consistent, high-quality results. That’s where chilling comes in—and why G&D Chillers is proud to be at IBIE 2025, the Western Hemisphere’s premier event for the grain-based food industry.

The Role of Chilling in Baking

Professional bakers know that temperature control is critical—not just in the oven, but long before dough hits the heat. From mixing to proofing to cooling, chilling plays a key role in:

Maintaining dough integrity
Excessive heat during mixing can kill yeast or degrade dough structure. Chilled water and jacketed mixers help maintain ideal dough temperatures.

Process consistency at scale
For industrial bakeries, ingredient temperatures can vary significantly depending on the season or production schedule. Process chillers stabilize these variables, ensuring repeatable product quality.

Extending shelf life and food safety
Rapid cooling post-bake or during intermediate steps helps meet food safety standards and preserve the freshness of baked goods.

G&D Chillers: Precision Cooling for the Baking Industry

At G&D, we specialize in custom-engineered process chillers that meet the rigorous demands of the food and beverage industries—including baking.

Whether you’re running a wholesale dough facility or an automated production line, our systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with your equipment, delivering precise, energy-efficient temperature control.

Glycol systems for jacketed mixing tanks

Inline water chilling to deliver water at exact temps for dough mixing

Modular designs to fit growing operations

Robust construction for 24/7 production environments

Our chillers are already trusted by food and beverage professionals across North America—and we’re here at IBIE 2025 to help more bakers implement smart, scalable chilling solutions.

Why We're at IBIE 2025

If you’re attending IBIE 2025 in Las Vegas, stop by and talk chilling with us. Let’s discuss how precise temperature control can give your bakery a competitive edge—from dough to delivery.
