Dairy Industry Chiller Overview with Andy

How’s it going? I’m Andy Backer. I’m the Vice President of Sales at G&D Chillers. Today, we’re going to talk to you a little bit about the chillers we make specifically for the dairy industry.

Behind me today we have a GD-100H-2C. It’s a two stage fifty-horsepower compressor chiller that would go into a typical dairy operation. There’s a lot of things we build into our design. We try to keep it as simple as possible.

Nice open layout. Our company was started by a refrigeration technician who just loved the ability to get in there and do what he had to do at any time. We also coat our condensers with an electrofin coating. This protects them in the corrosive environment that we find in a dairy operation.

You know, it keeps the condenser working as it should, keeps the chiller working as it should. We also have built in redundancy in our condenser fans as well as our pumps. Local support is critical, and G&D has always recognized that. Definitely in the design of our chillers with no proprietary parts, but also with the local technician on-site at your place, whether it’s a refrigeration company that you use on a regular basis or it’s your own in-house maintenance staff.

Your own in-house maintenance staff is welcome. We welcome them up to our shop for factory training. It’s a great thing that we offer, we always have, and it really is beneficial for a lot of our bigger dairy producers and smaller ones. Anyone’s welcome.

We’ve also established a great network of refrigeration companies around North America that are familiar with our chillers that we can call on and have them on-site if needed. And we do all this because we understand how critical it is that you have a properly functioning chiller in your dairy. That’s just who we are as a company. We’ve always stood behind the local technicians.

Our customers, we want to make sure your operation’s running as smoothly as possible at all times. Here’s a quick look at our control panel. Like everything else, we like to keep it open, clean, and simple. We use all circuit breakers, no fuses.

There’s your VFD right there that controls the flow of our process pump as well as the speed of our fan motors. You have right here our Carel control. It’s nonproprietary and it’s a great controller. One of the cool features of this controller is that you can actually remote monitor and control your chiller.

It’s great. It also sends out alarms and alerts if there’s something wrong with the chiller. It also allows us at G&D to jump into your chiller and diagnose and troubleshoot from here in our factory. Bottom line is we build a very robust chiller.

We’re here to back it up. We are here to develop partnerships with the end user. If you need anything or you have any questions, feel free to give us a call anytime. We’re happy to help.
